From Cocoa Bean to Chocolate Bar: Learn the Science Behind Your Favorite Snacks at Snack Engineers!
WHAT TO EXPECT
Snack Engineers is a food engineering program with an adaptable curriculum for all age groups. It introduces the principles of food engineering, preservation, packaging, safety, and sustainability, as well as food innovation.
Students will learn by participating in hands-on activities and projects, such as food experiments, cooking projects, recipe development, designing and building packaging materials, and creating new food products or processes. The program aims to develop children's creativity, problem-solving skills, and practical skills in STEM fields and beyond.
CURRICULUM
Our curriculum focuses on recreating popular food products. Students will learn how a popular food item, like Doritos chips, are made by exploring each step of the process, starting from the corn kernel.
After understanding the process, students will brainstorm ways to improve the product and make it healthier and more inclusive. This allows students to be creative and think critically about how to make better food choices while learning about the science behind food production.
Students develop a new snack and design packaging labels; for a full finished product at the end of each session.
